Read MoreEqual Pay Day is observed every April to symbolize how far into the year women need to work to make what men did in the previous year, according to the National Committee on Pay Equity. Because women earn less on average, we must work longer for the same pay. American women work full time, year round, and are still paid significantly less than men working the same job. Still alive and well, the gender pay gap is still daunting a subject. It’s a harsh reality. It's gender bias.

For years, recruiters and hiring managers have experienced frustrations, one of them as follows: A job ad stating the company seeks a Care Coordinator with a minimum Bachelor's in a Human Services field with two years of accompanying, qualifying experience, will bring back 100 applicants and resumes. Of those 100, around 50% will have only some, if any, of the above requirements. Candidates are on the hunt for gainful employment -- we get it. But, it is a big red flag to recruiters to see an applicant has not only failed to read the listing in full, but may have read and disregarded everything stated. I tell candidates often, "set yourself up to win and save yourself the time and aggravation. Pay attention to details."
